Steinberg were one of the first companies to work with Euphonix to support the EuCon high-speed Ethernet control protocol. As a result Steinberg's Nuendo audio post production DAW deeply integrates with all Euphonix post controllers and consoles, from the Artist Series though to the System 5 dual-operator film mixing consoles.
Nuendo is an extremely powerful audio post solution capable of recording, editing and mixing the most sophisticated projects to picture, from corporate videos, TV shows, dramas and documentaries, to the largest motion picture projects. Euphonix consoles and controllers perfectly compliment Nuendo's power providing the tactile feel and fast control missing from 'in the box' solutions.
Nuendo is a native application running on both Mac and PC and is therefore a much more cost effective solution than DSP based post solutions. Nuendo's power comes directly from the workstation's processors allowing users to speed up operation and support more tracks by simply upgrading the computer when faster machines become available. Recent 8-core computers provide support for hundreds of Nuendo tracks and effects processing in real-time, a feat not possible only a few years ago.
Nuendo supports any ASIO or Core Audio compliant I/O allowing customers to choose the interface that suits their project the best. This includes MADI I/O via PCI cards which allows hundreds of audio tracks to cost-effectively connect the Nuendo DAW to the Euphonix System 5 and S5 Fusion, DSP based consoles. And Nuendo can also integrate alongside Pro Tools systems due to EuCon's ability to instantly switch control to different applications which is an essential requirement in many film dubbing applications.
Check out how the full line of Euphonix post products seemlessly integrate with Nuendo....
Nuendo EuCon Integration
Nuendo fully supports the EuCon control protocol allowing all Euphonix control surfaces to directly connect into the heart of Nuendo at high-speed and high-resolution for the ultimate audio post experience. Nuendo can be controlled from the artist series on the Mac platform at no additional charge, and from all other Euphonix Pro products, on either the Mac or PC platform, utilizing the EuCon adaptor software that must be purchased from Steinberg.
The Euphonix Artist Series product line tightly integrates with Nuendo and is a perfect solution to speed up editorial work and to enhance premixing or mixing directly within Nuendo on the Mac platform.
Derek Vanderhorst, Hollywood
Artist Series & Nuendo Profile
Derek Vanderhorst has over 70 movies to his credit and uses an MC Mix with Nuendo. "I work in both Pro Tools and Nuendo running my Pro Tools digital thru my RME ADI-8 which allows me to use and switch between both of these applications. As Nuendo has become much more important to my workflow, I was looking for a mixer solution. I had been reading reviews on the Euphonix MC Mix, and the day it shipped, I ran down to my local vendor to secure mine. With the first release of the EuCon Protocol I was amazed how seamlessly it switched between all of my applications."
With 56 SmartSwitches, 4 faders, monitoring section and intelligent jog/shuttle wheel the MC Pro is a controller with a difference. EuCon allows deep access to all Nuendo's functions at the touch of a button, and the touch screen with 8 knobs provides easy control of plug-ins and sends plus many other features not found on any other controller. For audio post and music applications the MC Pro teamed with Nuendo offers one of the most powerful and compact professional editing and mixing solution on the planet.
Steve Tushar, Hollywood
MC Pro & Nuendo Profile
Steve Tushar is currently a producer, remixer, and sound designer in Hollywood, having worked on movies such as American Wedding, Kicking & Screaming, The Wicker Man, and David Lynch's Inland Empire, "About 6 years ago I switched over to Nuendo. I came from Pro Tools world, but when Nuendo came out I grabbed onto the concept, it just blew me away, the customization of it, the sound quality, the feature set - it enables me to work a lot faster. I love the MC Pro, by having the whole surface wrapped around the keyboard it lets me get close to my monitors - this is the surface for me. The highlight of the MC Pro is the 56 SmartSwitches that let me customize any Nuendo function on the buttons including macros - again it really speeds up my workflow."
The Euphonix System 5-MC is a professional media controller comprising the MC Pro and the Euphonix System 5 channel strip modules, complete with TFT screens, high quality moving faders and 8 knobs per channel. Nuendo provides the System 5-MC with a complete back end including sophisticated mixing facilities including full dynamic automation thanks to Nuendo's inclusion of many of the Euphonix System 5 automation features.
Studio Mitte, Berlin
System 5-MC & Nuendo Profile
Studio Mitte are a post house in Berlin, Germany and selected the Euphonix System 5-MC controller for its superior ergonomics, the power and flexibility of the EuCon protocol, and the tight integration with Steinberg's Nuendo. "The Euphonix setup was so smooth that our first project using the System 5-MC, Julie Delpy's film 'Two Days in Paris,' was edited and mixed while the system was being installed," said Jörg Höhne, Studio Mitte's founder, CEO and re-recording mixer. "With the 5-MC and the advantages afforded by EuCon, we found the perfect, most professional hardware to work with our favorite software."
The S5 Fusion is a complete digital audio mixing package with all the features of the Euphonix System 5 high-end film console plus the deep integrated control of Nuendo thanks to the EuCon control features of the console. For post applications operators can play back and premix hundreds of tracks within Nuendo, into the Euphonix DSP channels for final stem mixing and monitoring. S5 Fusion can support over 100 DSP channels and comes at a very competitive price thanks to it's compact DSP and monitoring back end.
Yello Cab, Paris
S5 Fusion & Nuendo Profile
The S5 Fusion is located in their premiere Studio A dubbing theatre in Paris and utilizes Nundo as the main DAW controlled from the S5 Fusion console. Yellow Cab co-owners Steven Ghouti and Eric Lesachet now enjoy a growing list of feature film clients. "My first reaction concerning the EuCon protocol was 'finally something better than the ubiquitous HUI command!' I was immediately impressed that because EuCon is Ethernet driven, it can talk to Nuendo at a much deeper level than any controller out there," described Ghouti, "Of course the S5 Fusion is more about mixing, and the MC Pro we also have, with its faders and functionalities shined with Nuendo during editing. Because I'm so used to mixing consoles I have never really liked mouse-mixing."
For the ultimate in audio post mixing the Euphonix System 5 digital audio mixing system is without equal. In the last 8 years a film mix team working on Euphonix System 5 has been nominated each year for Sound Mixing Oscar® with 6 Oscar wins, including Slumdog Millionaire and Bourne Ultimatum. System 5 is totally scaleable to over 800 DSP channels for the larger dual-operator systems. And System 5 can include EuCon control of multiple DAWs allowing external DAWs to act as pre-mixers feeding the DSP channels for final stem mix-down using the tried and tested Euphonix automation and surround monitoring system.
John Ross, 424 Studios, Hollywood
System 5 & Nuendo Profile
John has years of experience as a sound designer and re-recording mixer and has now built one of the finest mixing stages in the world with a Euphonix dual operator System 5 controlling multiple Nuendo and Pro Tools systems. Recent projects include box office hits such as '17 Again' and 'Sex and the City - the Movie'. John is enthusiastic about the capabilities of Nuendo and EuCon, "Steinberg have been working on a rising star for quite some time now, the Nuendo environment is a perfect example of what can be done with host based processing, it will scale from hundreds of tracks on a fast workstation all the way down to the laptop level. Steinberg and Euphonix have really been working on handshaking the EuCon protocol, it really feels like Nuendo and System 5 are one. They have spent a lot of time mapping the functionality of the two products to a level I have not seen in other controllers. Plus there is the bonus of the Euphonix DSP channels plus a very powerful monitoring and machine control solution".
