Euphonix, a world leader in large-format mixing consoles
and control surfaces, announced today the National Film and
Television School www.nfts.co.uk (NFTS)
has purchased three Euphonix System 5 digital mixing audio
systems for their newly expanded film mixing department.
Each console will be a 24-fader, 78 channel system with DAW
control of Nuendo Pro Tools and Logic Pro.
“The teaching and engineering departments at the School,
and our external advisors, all agreed that standardizing
sound consoles in our three theatres was beneficial to the
teaching program and workflow,” said Jon Houchin, Head
of Engineering at the NFTS. “The Euphonix System 5
consoles were selected in the face of strong competition.
The desk layout is very friendly and accessible – ideal
for teaching the craft of mixing. Euphonix have pioneered
a design concept that fully utilizes DAW control, from the
editing suites to the final mix theatre. The System 5 consoles
will play a central role in delivering the school’s
modernized sound and music post production work flow and
training.”
The Euphonix System 5 is a high performance digital audio
mixing system specifically designed for audio post-production
and music applications. Intuitive and easy to learn, the
System 5 provides integrated machine control and a remarkable
mix-automation system making the console a best choice for
any post-production facility. Euphonix’ EuCon protocol
extends the control capabilities of the console beyond the
dedicated DSP cores to the outside world, bringing any DAW
tracks onto the console surface for full control during mixing.
The DAWs communicate with the console via the EuCon high-speed
Ethernet control protocol which can seamlessly connect any
DAW format.
Located in Beaconsfield, UK, NFTS was established in 1971.
With 180 full-time students and over 1,000 part time students,
NFTS is the only film school in the UK with its own film
and television studios. It is also the UK’s only
Dolby approved film school, reflecting the high professional
standard of work produced there.

“NFTS is a short 20 minutes ride down the road from
both the Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, who now have four,
dual-operator Euphonix System 5 consoles between them,” said
Mark Hosking, UK Sales Manager for Euphonix.”Following
the lead of such renowned film studios clearly shows that
NFTS sees the future of successful film mixing lies with
Euphonix. Having NFTS as a Euphonix customer is not only
a great privilege but also allows Euphonix to be part of
maintaining the future of the creative film business here
in the UK.”
A growing student enrollment prompted NFTS to expand from
a single 5.1 dubbing theatre and a smaller stereo theatre
to three 5.1 theaters. The three System 5-equipped Theatres
will offer NFTS total flexibility in scheduling and work
flow efficiency for the sharp increase in mixing Graduation
Films.
The first console will be delivered this November for a
January start date while the other two desks will be installed
in March 2009. |
