Euphonix, a world leader in large-format mixing consoles
and control surfaces, today announced a host of new features
for customers who integrate Nuendo with Euphonix controllers
and consoles via the EuCon protocol. Steinberg, with input
from Euphonix, has completely redesigned the dynamic automation
system in Nuendo 4 providing a perfect fusion of functionalities
found in traditional large scale mixing consoles, such as
the Euphonix System 5, and the innovative possibilities of
a modern, feature rich and flexible DAW like Nuendo 4.
Nuendo 4 automation modes will be familiar to anyone who
knows the Euphonix System 5 and go far beyond automation
features found in other top professional DAWs. ‘Preview’ mode
allows multiple punches to be auditioned and works in all
automation modes. ‘Touch Assist’ ensures that
all parameters within an automated element are punched during
automation passes. Channels can be set to follow ‘Global’ automation
punch mode (touch, latch, trim, etc.) or to an individual
status. The use of ‘Virgin Territory’ keeps automation
data to a minimum and also allows the fader to be adjusted
in ‘Virgin Territory’ areas in read mode without
the constraints of currently written automation data pulling
the parameters back. All standard Euphonix ‘Fill’ features
(Fill to Start, Fill to End, Fill Region and Fill to Punch)
are included and directly accessible from the MC’s
56 SmartSwitches.

All the new Nuendo automation modes are included in the
latest ‘Application Set’ from Euphonix that maps
Nuendo functions to the MC’s SmartSwitches for easy
access. Visual Feedback from the System 5-MC tactile work
surface is unparalleled with touch knob status LEDs and knob
colors, together with the high resolution screens at the
top of each channel showing EQ and Pan curves, track punch
mode, track color, and automation status.
Nuendo 4 also offers accelerated editing workflows available
directly through the MC SmartSwitches, including a range
of new editing commands for lightning fast alignment and
trimming of audio. Euphonix MC and System 5-MC also offer
immediate and full tactile control of the included new suite
of next generation, surround-capable VST3 plug-ins that offer
a powerful audio processing toolset for dynamics, spatial
and filtering applications.
First introduced in 2004, Nuendo integration
with Euphonix controllers such as the MC and System 5-MC
is extremely deep thanks to the EuCon control protocol that
allows Euphonix controllers to connect and control Nuendo
over high-speed Ethernet. EuCon is 250 times faster and 8
times the resolution of MIDI allowing complete integration
between control surface and the Nuendo application so the
controller and software work as one integrated recording,
editing and mixing system with unrivalled power.
“Hundreds of Euphonix clients now rely
on Nuendo as their primary mixing engine so these new automation
features will make a huge impact on their workflow,” Martin
Kloiber, Euphonix CEO,
said. “This release of Nuendo 4 is the culmination
of a relationship between Euphonix and Steinberg dating back
to 2002 and represents a huge commitment from both companies
to provide the ultimate audio post and media production solution
available on the market today.”
