CNN Selects Euphonix Max Air Digital Audio Consoles for Los Angeles Bureau Upgrade

Two More Max Air Consoles for CNN's LA Bureau Brings Total to 12 Max Air Systems in the US for CNN

IBC Amsterdam, Sept 7th 2007

Max Air
Two Max Air Digital Audio Mixing Systems for CNN Los Angeles

Euphonix, a world leader in large-format mixing consoles and control surfaces, today announced that CNN has purchased two Euphonix Max Air digital audio broadcast systems for their new on-air and production studios currently under construction in Los Angeles. The Max Air, a high-performance digital audio mixing system specifically designed for on-air and live-to-tape broadcasts, will be used for Larry King Live as well as other CNN productions. CNN Los Angeles is the fourth CNN facility to install the Max Air consoles bringing the total number of systems to twelve.

Currently there are four Max Air systems installed in CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, four in CNN’s New York bureau and two in the Washington DC bureau.

One of the Los Angeles Max Air systems will be installed in the main control room for Larry King Live, the cable giant’s longest-running interview program, while a second, identical system will be installed in a smaller studio where it will support other shows independently. Each system features Euphonix’s new DF-66 fully redundant DSP SuperCore processing, ensuring 100% backup of DSP channels, MADI I/O and the console’s router for each studio.

CNN has been using the Max Air console at its other U.S. facilities for the last four years. The CNN Los Angeles Max Air systems comprise a compact 32-fader control surface with touch screen interface, 96-channel DSP core with router and a custom set of I/Os. An optional Euphonix StudioHub, an AES10 MADI Router, is included to integrate the Euphonix systems with the facility’s router, using the ES-Switch Protocol, allowing all areas access to the two studio’s sources.

Martin Kloiber, Euphonix CEO, has been directly involved with the CNN project for several years, “We are very proud of the relationship we have built with CNN starting with the first Atlanta installations in 2003. Our team at Euphonix has worked to ensure that our systems and support can handle all CNN’s applications, even going as far as to develop new technology such as the remote 8-fader screen for Max Air to help meet some of their specific requirements.”
