with Euphonix Consoles
CLS Outfits Mobile Studio
with Euphonix System 5-BP for Superior Sound and Fast Turnaround
Palo Alto, July 30th 2007
Euphonix, a world leader in large-format mixing consoles
and control surfaces, today announced that CLS Audiovisuais
Lda. successfully mixed the worldwide broadcast of the “New7Wonders” using
a mobile recording studio outfitted with a System 5-BP audio
console. The System 5-BP enables the CLS operators to mix
and manage live, high-definition, surround-sound broadcasts
in addition to post-production recordings.
On the auspicious date of 07/07/07, CLS managed the broadcast
of the “New7Wonders” — a campaign to name
the new seven wonders of the modern world — in front
of 50,000 spectators in Lisbon’s Benfica Stadium and
a television audience of millions. CLS managed the live mix
for the star-studded ceremonies, which included hosts Hilary
Swank, Ben Kingsley, and the president and prime minister
of Portugal, as well as live performances by Jennifer Lopez,
Jose Carreras, Dulce Pontes, Chaka Khan, Alessandro Safina,
Joaquín Cortés, and Mariza, who won BBC world
music award.
“The events we mix demand insane levels of coordination,
not only among our engineers but also among our equipment,” Nuno
Duarte, Technical director for CLS, said. “You only
get one chance to announce the seven new wonders of the world.
We stake our reputation on the outcome of each and every
project. Thanks to Euphonix consoles, mixes for the New7Wonders
broadcast came together flawlessly.”
In addition to major telecasts, concerts, and award-winning
band recordings for DVD, CLS has mixed some of the largest
sports events in the world including the FIFA World Cup,
the A1 Grand Prix, and the Rally Lisbon-Dakar.
In 2006, CLS christened a fast and flexible mobile recording
truck powered by a fully automated System 5-BP with 72 faders,
154 DSP channels, 96 analogue inputs, 48 analogue outputs
and 168 AES/EBU inputs and outputs. CLS’s audio engineers
can also mix tracks from a 96-track Pro Tools HD3 from a
Apple Power Mac G5 DAW as well as a 112-track Nuendo 3 DAW
with MADI card on the console with full Euphonix mix automation
for posting shows and also for checking correct balances
prior to the show with tracks recorded during rehearsal.
CLS employs a Genelec 8050A the 5.1 surround system, a B&W
801D Nautilus for stereo monitoring, a TC Electronic System
6000 for effects, and a Bonsai Rosendhal hard-disk recorder
for video monitor and playback.
The CLS truck even comes equipped with a mini-bar and home
cinema system that makes the delights of any demanding customer.
“The chief technician for Metallica, was convinced
that our mobile studio was undoubtedly one of the best sound
units currently available,” Duarte said. “He’s
looking forward to the chance of trying it out.”
“Fidelity and flexibility are critical components
for today’s OB trucks,” Martin Kloiber, Euphonix’s
CEO, said, “and we’re thrilled CLS Audiovisuais
is garnering so much interest — and so many projects — with
our systems.” |
