Euphonix Introduces S5 Fusion Digital Audio Post Mixing System for HDTV at NAB2007

New Mixing System Combines DSP and DAW Control Technology with the Versatile EuCon Protocol

Palo Alto, CA, USA – April 2nd 2007

S5 Fusion

Euphonix, a world leader in large-format mixing consoles and control surfaces, will introduce the S5 Fusion for high definition television audio post at NAB2007. Based on Euphonix’s best-selling System 5 series, the S5 Fusion is a professional mixing package that fuses Euphonix’s new digital signal processing SuperCore engine with EuCon Hybrid, a derivative of Euphonix’s universal control protocol. The powerful combination enables the S5 Fusion console surface to simultaneously control its own DSP channels as well as channels from multiple external digital audio workstations (DAWs) over high-speed Ethernet.

Euphonix designed the S5 Fusion to meet the specific needs of mixers as the broadcast industry transitions to HD and surround sound programming. The market demanded a single, cost-effective audio mixing solution that manages a large number of tracks with the quality and reliability of dedicated DSP channels. To satisfy mixing engineers, the solution also needed machine control, a router and comprehensive film-style surround monitoring features plus the ability to control multiple DAWs.

S5 Fusion

“The S5 Fusion bridges a real gap between traditional DSP-based mixing systems and pure controllers such as the System 5-MC,” Martin Kloiber, Euphonix’s CEO, said. “This new system incorporates our years of experience in satisfying the film industry’s rigorous demands for pristine sound quality and extensive surround sound mixing capability.”

Euphonix’s new DSP SuperCore powers the S5 Fusion’s signal processing and routing, providing full multi-format channels with EQ, filters and dynamics together with mix, aux and group busses with bus processing. EuCon Hybrid, incorporating the EuCon high-speed Ethernet protocol, extends the control capabilities of the console beyond the dedicated DSP SuperCore to bring Mac and PC DAW tracks onto the console surface for mixing.

Nuendo, Logic Pro and Pyramix directly support EuCon, which offers the highest levels of integration, resolution and connectivity to almost all DAW functions. Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro and Digital Performer — among hundreds of other applications — can also be fully controlled from the console surface. That means mixers have the flexibility to select tracks from DAWs for placement and control on the S5 Fusion surface in any order they choose. Operators can save these channel layouts, making them easy to access and organize, instead of using DAW tracks only as traditional playback sources.

The S5 Fusion completes Euphonix’s line of audio post products, which includes the MC media application controller, the System 5-MC integrated DAW controller, and System 5 with EuCon Hybrid. All these systems — along with the System 5-B and Max Air products for live, on-air applications from studios or the road — will be shown together for the first time at booth #N4021 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 16-19.
