Euphonix, a world leader in large-format
mixing consoles and control surfaces, supplied Gearhouse
Broadcast — a global provider of broadcast equipment solutions — a
new System 5-B digital audio mixing console to manage the
live, high-definition, surround sound broadcast of the 2007
Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl in Honolulu. The 61st Hula
Bowl is football's premiere event for college players to
showcase their talent and perform in front of professional
football scouts from the National Football League.
ESPN’s broadcast was the first college
game broadcast in HD from Hawaii. Until this year, the Aloha
Bowl, Hula Bowl and even the NFL's Pro Bowl have been relegated
to 480i standard-definition resolution — primarily
because of the prohibitive cost to ship HD broadcast equipment
to the islands. This year, Gearhouse provided engineering,
technical facilities and logistics support for the January
14 primetime game. Gearhouse employed a System 5-B with 24
channel strips with 106 channels of processing. The high
performance digital audio mixing system comprised a control
surface, digital processing core, digital and analog interfaces
and a system management software application called eMix.
"Euphonix was proud to participate in ESPN's broadcast of the Hula Bowl," Martin Kloiber, Euphonix CEO, said. "The 720p broadcast in 5.1 surround sound is a significant milestone for the industry. Customers such as Gearhouse demand consoles with an intuitive design and innovative technology — features the System 5-B delivers on the highest order."
The Euphonix system included updated control
surface modules that feature higher resolution screens and
new touch-sensitive knobs. The console included three 8-fader
CM408T modules, one CM401T master module and one CM402T sub-master
module. These modules also include faster processors and
more on-board memory.
The Euphonix System 5-B is the most advanced digital broadcast mixing system available. In addition to the new surface modules, the system includes a new DSP SuperCore with 100% failover option and capable of supporting more than 1,000 full features channels. New modular inputs and outputs also include SDI connectivity.
