Anand Recording Private Limited, recognized
as India's premiere professional motion picture sound
post production facility and home to Navketan Films, recently
took delivery of a new Euphonix System 5-P digital audio
mixing console, which is now fully operational and being
used on a number of forthcoming film projects. The installation
of the new System 5-P is part of an extensive refurbishment
throughout the entire Anand Recording facility, which includes
a dubbing theatre (for voiceover work), as well as a Foley
theatre.
Specifically configured for motion picture
mixing, the new single operator System 5-P is a dual core,
154 channel system with 56 faders and is outfitted with a
film style monitoring panel that includes pec-direct switching
and joysticks. The console replaced an aging analogue desk
in the facility's main mixing theatre, where award winning
mix engineer Anup Dev is on board as the facility's
lead re-recording engineer. Renowned architect Roger
D'Arcy of London's Recording Architecture Ltd. designed the
interior of Anand's mixing stage in addition to handling
all acoustic treatment of the revitalized facility. With
its recent Dolby certification in hand, the new room is off
to a rousing start. The facility's first mix sessions for
a major production titled 'Mehbooba' have already commenced.
Anand Recording is owned by Dev Anand, widely
considered one of the greatest stars the Hindi Film Industry
for his portrayals of handsome, debonair, urban gentlemen.
Overseeing the studio's day-to-day operations is his son
Suneil Anand. Prior to purchasing the new System 5, key
studio personnel reviewed a number of competing consoles.
Suneil Anand reflected on the decision to select Euphonix. "Our
Euphonix System 5 digital mixing console has surpassed
our expectations. The state-of-the-art modular design and
superior build quality have given us an edge over other mix
facilities in the country and made us comparable to the best
surround film audio post-production studios in the world.
What's been great about dealing with Euphonix is that as
soon as the installation and commissioning were completed,
we were straight into three major projects; Salaam-e-Ishq;
MEHBOOBA and CROSS ROAD"
"The System 5 is the benchmark
by which all future standards for film post will be measured.
Of equal
importance,"” said Anand, "we believe the
System 5's core architecture future proofs our investment.
Developments
like the Hybrid control of workstations are very interesting
for us enabling our studio to remain on the cutting edge. Combined
with a reputation for highly capable, responsive support, both
via the factory and our local distributor, Cinecita, I believe
we are in very good hands."
Anup Dev, widely recognized for his extensive
list of film credits as a sound re-recordist, recently re-joined
Anand Recording as the facility's lead re-recording engineer,
where he will be aided by Assistant Engineer Subir Das. Dev
commented on the new System 5. "The ergonomics are
great with the master section enabling any channel to be
brought
to
the center of the console at a touch of a button giving a
knob per function for expanded EQ, dynamics, and filters
together with hi-res TFT graphical displays. And since all
channels include the same number of busses, aux sends, EQ,
filters, and dynamics, signal routing and operation is much
easier."
